Merfolk and Coralsby ~djmidori

Traditional Art / Mixed Media

A painting I made with watercolours and coloured pencils. I originally wanted the 2 little lovebirds to have legs with the webby thing in between, but that could be a dirty little scene....

Anyways, I think this will be a good 'PROTECT THE CORALS' poster if the lovers are kicked out.

I'm not satisfied with the coral on the left. But I think the overall colours turned out well. Amazing how the dull blue and pitch black at the bottom of the sea could be so colourful if you have a torch with you X_X
I wanna go diving!!!

My thoughts on this picture is...
The merfolk feed on the minerals that the corals give out, just like the fish. Somehow, due to human activity, is killing the corals, putting the merfolk and the fish to extinction and with no protection from the corals that they live on.
If that made any sense...it'd be nice to see a merfolk in real life

Nice coloring! I like the extra fishy details you gave them by adding the side-fins to their tails, and webbing between their fingers!
